New season, new trends! The holiday season always brings glitz, glam and sparkle to everything we do–including our makeup–and this year is no different with the comeback of metallic. We caught up with Brittany Gray, the founder of Fancy Face Inc. and the Bridal Beauty Expert for Kleinfeld Canada, to chat about gorgeous holiday looks for different personalities, must-have products for this season’s hottest trends and tips on how to apply metallic on your eye lids.
Look 1: Classic Hollywood with a Modern Twist

The gold metallic eyeshadow takes your classy “Marilyn Monroe” look up a notch with extra glam. Keeping true to the “Marilyn Monroe” look, pair your gold metallic eyelids with a cherry matte lip. “To make this glam and trendy look easier, opt for a pencil instead of an eyeshadow. Eyeshadow can be messy, and many women find it difficult to work with. A pencil is easy to glide on,” Brittany comments on the gold metallic eyeshadow featured in this look. “To mimic the effect of eyeshadow, blend, blend, blend, and blend some more.”
Look 2: Inner Bombshell

“I am so excited for the rebirth of the glossy lip!” Brittany shares. It’s one the simplest lip looks to pull off–no lip liner required–and it makes your lips look more natural and moisturized. We’ve been obsessed with Wet n’ Wild’s MegaSlicks lip gloss that was featured in our Fall Winter Box, but if you’re looking for more options Brittanysuggests her go-to “Obvi Warm Nude” in the Tarte Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint. To pull of this look, pair pink berry lips with a fresh plum smokey eye (try something different from the traditional black/grey smokey eye for the holidays) with bold lashes. “My favourite mascaras for the clumpy, twig-like lash look is L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Blackest Black or Too Faced “Better Than Sex,” Brittany suggests.
Look 3: Party Girl with Silver Metallics

“The most popular look for Winter 2016/2017 is the silver metallic eye,” Brittany says. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve never dared to use metallics on your eyes before, especially as an eyeshadow. Luckily, Brittany is here to offer us some advice; “If you aren’t much of an eyeshadow person, but want to try out this look, check out Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Cuff.” To use, line the lid of your eye with this glamorous silver tone. To finish, just swipe your eyelashes with dark mascara. If you like the look but want something more unique, focus the colour on the inner corners of your eye and tear ducts.” Pair your silver metallic eyes with a pale pouty lip, because you don’t want to take away from your dramatic eyes, and voila! You’re New Year’s Eve party ready.
Look 4: Monochromatic Face

Burgundy and wine tones have been trending lately so why not “wow” everyone by using this colour on your eye and lips. “For dark lips, invest in a colour that is rich in tone,” Brittany recommends. “Be sure it isn't too slippery or sheer. I love Diva by Mac Cosmetics.”
And there you have it! Four perfect, totally trend worthy, Instagram-perfect, makeup of the day looks that’ll take you from dinner with the family, office holiday parties and the big New Year’s Eve bash.
