There’s something mesmerizing about the classic red Elizabeth Arden lipstick and I’ve been known to literally die when a new Urban Decay palette is released. I have a weakness for luxury makeup but who doesn’t? It makes your face feel like a million bucks, am I right?
I’ve been wearing makeup regularly for 7 years now – starting off slow with just foundation and working my way to contouring – but within those 7 years I’ve tried the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to makeup products. But the most important lesson I’ve learned is that there is a time to splurge and a time to save. I may not have the best credentials to give you a super professional list of products you can save on, but if you're already intrigued you might as well read on.
1.Mascara
We all want #EyeLashGoals but if you’re a believer in perfecting your own lashes, I’ve found that the Covergirl LashBlast Clump Crusher does an amazing job. I’ve been using Benefit’s They’re Real for a LONG time and I don’t’ see much of a difference … asides from the price cut. Cha-Ching!
2.Concealer
Here’s the dark secret about concealer no one wants you to know: It doesn’t matter what you get, as long as you blend it correctly! Additionally, there isn’t a $30 concealer that has ever impressed me more than the $6 ones I get from Walmart. I promise, your super dark creepy under eye bags will not know the difference! Just BLEND. I recommend Revlon ColorStay Concealer for any acne/dark spots and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer for the under eye area.
3.Face Primers
When face primers first came out I had serious doubts that they even worked. But once I started hitting the yoga studio with bare minimal makeup on (I don’t have the greatest skin…) I saw the difference. Now that there are so many foundations with primers built into them, I don’t think you have to splurge on this. But if you’re looking for something great, I’d definitely give the Hard Candy Sheer Envy primer a try – it magically makes you skin softer and keeps your foundation in place.
4. Lip Products
Lips are in. From bold to the other side of the spectrum, nude lips, our lips are getting covered on a daily basis. But here’s my issue, most lipsticks dry my lips out so why not opt for a cheaper on? I know I cried about my love for Elizabeth Arden’s red lipstick (which I wear for SUPER special occasions) but if I’m just chilling at the office or hanging out with my boyfriend, lipstick fades/rubs off - I don’t mind putting another layer of gloss on if the whole tube cost me $10 but I’ll deifnelty think twice if the lipstick cost me anything over $30. NYX Lingerie lipstick is a new favourite of mine - check it out!
Well, there you have it. I may not have been to beauty school, but I’ve been experimenting with makeup for a long time and have spent more money at local Walmarts, Shoppers Drug Marts and Sephoras than I will ever admit. This applies to every aspect of your life, not just makeup. But, that is probably the most important aspect.
