Hello lovelies,
A couple of weeks ago I had the honour of speaking at Babe Box's first Instagram Workshop event in Toronto. Babe Box is a seasonal, lifestyle subscription box for Canadians, where you can get super cool products for just $10/month! Babe Box's motto is "babes helping babes" and I absolutely believe and love inspiring and supporting other females *GIRL POWER*. When co-founder, Jessica Harwood, asked me to speak and share my skills to future content creators, of course, I said yes!
Actually, funny story: Jessica Harwood, the co-founder of Babe Box, approached me a couple of weeks prior to the event and asked me to be the lifestyle speaker at the event. I actually worked with Jessica on various projects back when I was working at my first PR agency and she was the editor of a magazine. So, it's true when people tell you to not burn any bridges and to keep in contact with everyone you come across because you never know when you'll come across them again and it could lead to cool partnerships.
The event was so amazing and so inspirational! It was great to be surrounded by creatives who are passionate about the same things you are. The idea behind this event was to learn about how to create content that would great brands to notice you. We heard some great tips and tricks from Samantha (Mybeautyfaves) and Tracey (LipstickandMuffin), who shared their story on building their brand, collaborating with other brands and demonstrating their skills on how to create a great photo.
When it was my turn to share my story, I also had the fun task of doing a photo demo using Lipidol products such as the Cleansing Body Oil, After Shower Oil, Cleansing Face Oil and Overnight Face Oil. Babe Box, also hosting an Instagram photo contest using the Lipidol products, see some of the entries below:
Having a PR background and getting into the blogger world, really opened up my eyes on how much work actually goes into developing eye-catching content. Here are a few of my tips and tricks when creating a photo:
Lighting is key. Always try to shoot in natural light
Use props (such as florals, marble slab, accessories around your house)
Have different levels
Find a unique angle
Edit your photos (one of my favourite apps is VSCO)
Be patient! It may take 1 - 50 shots until you have the right capture
For more tips, check out this article. It was very helpful for me when I was creating my Instagram.
Also, they had some great brands who they partnered with to make this event a success such as:
Lipidol - a new line of skincare oils for daily cleansing and moisturizing, from the makers of Bio-Oil. It cleanses without stripping the skin of its natural oils, and helps retain moisture, keeping skin healthy, radiant and balanced. Lipidol is the world’s first range of oils for daily skincare.
CND - provided some on-site mini manicures. They featured bright, summery colours from their Creative Play line. Features 80 vibrant colors across 10 finishes (cream, metallic, pearl, shimmer, multi-colour glitter, metallic glitter, holographic glitter, satin, transformer and micro-glitter).
Smoke's Poutinerie - fed us with their delicious poutine flavours. Did you know? Every month Smoke’s is hosting the ultimate foodie #SmokeAdventure with their featured flavoured poutine inspired of the tastes of India, Jamaica, Korea and Canada.
Thank you Babe Box for having us at your event. Can't wait until the next one and hope to see all you babes there!
XOXO Rachael
