Have you spent hours just doing research on the right moisturizer for your skin needs? I’m sure we’ve all been stuck at a Shoppers Drug Mart, reading the labels on moisturizers that promise you amazing and great things, but then was kind of disappointed with the end result.
My biggest problem always comes when this question is asked “What’s your skin type?” Everyone likes to say that their skin is complicated, because that’s how we feel when we go out and buy a moisturizer, it’s always complicated. I’m in my mid-20’s with somewhat oily skin (mainly in the T zone area) and sometimes I have to deal with annoying pimples. Other than that, I’m pretty lucky because I don’t suffer from any major skin issues like rosacea, dark spots or deep wrinkles.
There’s been a lot of emphasis on beauty lately, especially on our face, and that’s why it’s more important than ever to find a skincare routine that’s going to help you to fight against your personal skincare issues. Blend & Boost, a company with it’s origins rooted in pharmaceutical science, believes that each person’s skin is unique. And with that in mind, they have developed a method to create truly customized skin care solutions for any skin type. Amanda Claridge, a Brand Manager at Blend & Boost, sat down with us to give us the rundown on how Blend & Boost works and how you can get customized skincare as well.
“We start by choosing a customizable base–we have five to choose from–and then there are 13 boosters, which are the active cosmetic ingredients. So, we mix and match a base with up to three boosters,” Amanda explains. “These creams can be multi-functional because we can address aging skin and acne, for example, with one product. It’s great for people who are looking for simplicity, as well as anyone who has a lot of different types of concerns and haven’t found something that suits them on the market.” With more than 80 combinations available, Blend & Boost will be able to compound a moisturizer that’s unique to your skin type.
So, how can you order your Blend & Boost serum? Amanda explains; “The products are sold in Dermatologists’ offices or medspas–as long as there is a physician on staff because we want it to be based on the patients needs, skin types and concerns or any procedures they’re doing. You would go in, they would asses your skin–either visually or with a skin imaging software–and then they would have you complete a questionnaire, select a product for you and then call our pharmacists’ who will prepare it within 48 hours and then have the cream shipped to the patient’s home or back to the clinic.” Amanda took me through the procedure, and in less than 30 minutes, I had my own unique Blend & Boost code ready to be made.
As mentioned, there are five different bases to choose from. There are two bases for anti-aging, a light and rich anti-aging base. There is also a sensitive skin base that has soothing ingredients, a moisturizing cream base which has a lot of hydrating ingredients and the oily skin cream base which is mattifying and helps to reduce shine and irritation on the skin.
My Blend & Boost moisturizer starts with the oily skin cream base and then has boosters to help with pimples, pores and shine and to prevent aging. I’ve been using it for three weeks and I can honestly say that I see a difference. I haven’t experienced any outbreaks recently and my skin does feel, and look, less shiny/oily weather or not I have makeup on. After three months of using the cream you should check back in with your Dermatologist to see if you’d like anything adjusted but I’m very happy with my unique Blend & Boost cream.
