CoverGirl is introducing their first CoverBoy in an upcoming mascara advertising campaign. The 17-year-old social media celebrity James Charles was introduced to the world on Tuesday as the makeup companies first male model.
CoverGirl describes Charles as a makeup artist and boundary breaker and they pledge he will be the first of what they call “boundary breaking” representatives. Charles says his role with CoverGirl includes appearing in a TV commercial for the brand. He also did a photo shoot with Katy Perry.
If you've never heard of the Instagram-famous makeup artist, here's a quick rundown: At just 17 years old, Charles has amassed more than 427,000 followers on Instagram, in part thanks to his creative takes on bold lipstick, classic wings, and rainbow eye shadow.
And did we mention he only started the account one year ago? Charles has already caught the attention of Zendaya when he posted photos of his senior portrait on Instagram and Twitter. He looked fierce AF, especially since he brought a ring light so his highlighter would pop—and pop it did. Zendaya retweeted his pictures and wrote: "You win."
In his Instagram bio, the first male CoverGirl calls himself an "aspiring makeup artist" since he doesn't have formal training. But he does have some serious skills. Charles, who is based in New York, posted his first YouTube makeup tutorial seven months ago and already has more than 70,700 subscribers.
All we can say is, it's about time CoverGirl! Men have been SLAYING the MUA world and it's just about time we had a young, hip and talented guy join the reigns of Katy Perry, Becky G and other CoverGirls alike.
