Creative output, you know, is just pain. I'm going to be cliche for a minute and say that great art comes from pain. – Kanye West [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]

“I began songwriting towards the end of middle school, but I got serious about it when its craft and catharsis became a means of survival for me during my struggles with an eating disorder,” up-and-coming singer/songwriter Beccs explains. ““There's a lot of nostalgia and resistance to the goodbye, but considering that this EP is an amalgam of seven years struggling with an eating disorder, it feels good to get distance from it.”
Beccs recently released her EP Unfound Beauty and every single in this 5-track EP tells its own story. My personal favourite single is “Therapy”. This single should be an anthem for our generation. It’s about being in a self-abusive relationship – which we all go through because we’re always our hardest critic. Plus, the piano ballad styled music with a jazz twist, paired with her strong, yet soft, Adele-esk voice truly enraptures you. The EP takes us through Beccs’ life, which sounds anything short of being pain-free, but ends on a somewhat blissful note with the single “It’s for You” where Beccs is opening her heart towards someone new. “I felt like a girl writing those songs, and now I feel like a woman releasing them,” Beccs comments on her EP. “ Honestly, that's the best part. Releasing this music required me to be woman, to value and take care of myself. I am the most grateful for that accountability and the proudest for being better to myself.”
It takes a lot of time and effort to pen feelings down on paper, produce it, and then release it into the world but Beccs has no regrets. Instead, she encourages everyone to strive to reach their goals too. “Ask for help. Proceed like you deserve it then learn to believe it. Work hard. Rest harder. As soon as you start to resent what you love, go live some until you're itching to get back because if it's truly what you want, you will always come back. If it's not what you want, what a beautiful thing to know,” Beccs encourages. “And most importantly, take care of yourself. Nothing else matters more than this home.”
