Tons of Plaid and Poutine for Everyone at the World Poutine Eating Championship in Toronto

It’s hilarious to see foreign people react to what poutine is; “Cheese and gravy on fries? That sounds horrible!” But all Canadians know that it’s one of the many amazing foods of our land and it is down-right delicious. Hi, my name is Nicole Silva and I’m addicted to poutine.

But poutine has to be done right. The fries have to be crispy, the cheese curds have to be small enough so that they melt after their smothered with oh-so-yummy gravy. You can get poutine almost anywhere in Canada – even McDonalds now – but THE BEST poutine is by far from Smoke’s Poutinerie. I’m a basic-poutine-kind-of-girl but Smoke’s serves 30 varieties of its famous poutine from pulled pork, bacon and taco toppings. With 100-plus locations in Canada, and 50-plus in the United States, the brand is on course for “Global Domination,” targeting 1,300 new locations to open around the world by 2020. American’s are totally in for a Canadiana treat!

To further celebrate our coveted poutine, the 7th annual World Poutine Eating Championship is being held in Toronto on October 1, 2016. Not only will the event be filled with fun games, a poutine eating contest with the world’s most renowned Major League Eating (MLE) competitors and poutine for EVERYONE, it’s also a heart-felt, huge fundraiser for Friends of We Care - a charity organization focused on sending children with disabilities to camp through the collaborative efforts of Canada’s food service and hospitality community.

Everyone in attendance will be able to share in the poutine eating celebration during WPEC 2016. Smoke’s Poutinerie wants all fans to get into the immense energy emanating from the Square through participation in extraordinary experiences including the following events:

  • The Potato Bag Launch – As only Smoke’s Poutinerie can, this contest invites fans to launch a Smoke’s Poutinerie-branded potato bag onto a giant tile game board; winners will be awarded branded tattoos, stickers, hats and more

  • Smoke’s Poutinerie Food Trucks Fundraising Derby – Those in attendance will be able to feast on free poutine all day courtesy of the two Smoke’s Poutinerie food trucks on hand. To make the epitome of indulgence even more meaningful, during the event, the two trucks will compete in a fan fundraising competition. Attendees will be able to donate to either truck as they are served poutine. For this fun faceoff, the head-to-head truck competitors will be affectionately known as General Lee (from the iconic ‘80s show Dukes of Hazzard) and DeLorean (from the legendary Back to the Future film). The plutonium-powered, revved up fundraiser benefits the event’s charity partner, Friends of We Care

  • Interactive Photo Booth – The latest in wacked-out photo-booth technology will also entertain fans, taking pictures and printing them out for fans to bring home with branded memories

  • Jones Soda Tasting Bar – Fans will line up to sip down Jones Soda. There will be three samplings to be served from a variety of assorted flavors on tap.

Save the date for October 1st and make your way to Yonge and Dundas square in your finest plaid clothing and an empty stomach. It’s going to be a gravy and cheese, fun-and-games filled afternoon, all in the spirit of charity.
