The foundation is the most important structure in any building because it’s the base is messed up, everything else is going to eventually fall a part. The same goes with our blessed makeup foundation. It comes through on worse-for-wear skin days, and for those with chronic acne, redness, or hyperpigmentation — it's often a step you wouldn't dream of foregoing. But, if applied wrong, it an end up detracting from your overall look and you would have been better going makeup free. The key to a flawless foundation is having it look like a second (better, smoother) skin. Here are 5 easy tips to help you achieve this look.
1. Moisturize!
Even if you're an oily-skinned babe, you'll want to make sure you apply some type of primer or cream to ensure you have a smooth, hydrated canvas for the makeup you're about to put on. Furthermore, moisturizer will plump your skin, reduce fine line and diminish any dry spots that your foundation could potentially highlight.
2. Mist
Misting is effective and it feels good. Try looking for a rosewater mist that’ll help the foundation to melt the foundation into the skin giving it the supple, luminous look. Check out the Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist.
3. Buff it Out
The best way to avoid cake face is to blend, blend and blend! The infamous BeautyBlender is one of our favourite tools to blending everything out seamlessly or you could opt for a dense makeup brush to buff everything out.
4. Blot
A simple, but very useful tip is to lightly blot your face after you're completely done applying your foundation. This will pick up any excess product that tends to have that sitting-on-top-of-your-skin effect, while still keeping your foundation totally intact. You any more of blotting paper like Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Dear Brachiosaurus Blotting Paper (because it's seriously too cool) or tissue paper if you’re desperate.
5. Don’t go Overboard with Powder
Translucent powder is great for setting your makeup and making sure that your face stays flawless all day, but be careful not to add too much powder. It’ll start to dry the foundation below leaving you with a cracked makeup look (I had it once and I was terrified). Apply, bake and remove.
