7 Hair Tricks That'll Give You Great Hair (Despite Your Hair Genes)

Everyone has issues with their hair – it’s too frizzy or too sleek, too thick or too thin – but just know that gorgeous hair isn’t about your genes, it’s about having a good hair routine. We’ve got 7 tips that’ll help you to take matters into your own hands. So throw on a hair mask and keep on reading.

Use Weekly Hair Masks

Weather is hair is over-processed, sun damaged or just flat out dry, there is a mask for that. Using a mask weekly will help to hydrate and replenish your hair. Check out the Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Mask. with every wash, reveal stronger hair that`s rejuvenated with healthy, rich shine. Plus, it smells SO good.

Stay Away from Your Flat Iron

I know this sounds pretty impossible and I feel like a hypocrite even saying this but we all know that using these products on our hair weekly (twice a week for some) is not really helping our hair. If you’re going to use it, turn down the heat setting and don’t forget to use heat protecting spray or cream.

Try to Keep Shampooing to a Minimum

Washing your hair too often can strip it from it’s natural oils and dry out your hair. Get a little creative with braids and buns and keep your hair fresh between washes with dry shampoo. COLAB Dry Shampoo also gives your hair a great smell and volume lift so give them a try!

Wash with Cooler Water

Using scorching hot water will strip your scalp of natural oils – in fact, bathing with super hot water isn’t good for your skin either. Try to turn down the heat, and at the very least, do your final rinse with cool water to lock in moisturizer and close your hair cuticles.

Use the Right Brush

Wet hair is fragile so comb your hair out before you shower and then comb it again when it’s close to being dry. Stiff bristles can create split ends and dry out your hair so invest in a comb that has flexible bristles. I like to use the Tangle Teezer Detangling Hairbrush for it’s flexible bristles - detangling your hair will be less painful plus the brushes are so darn cute!.

Massage Your Scalp

Not only does it feel good, but it’s doing a lot of good by promoting hair growth by circulating. Spend a little bit more time in the shower massaging your scalp or buy a scalp massaging tool so that you can massage more often.

Sleep with a Silk Pillow Case

I made the switch recently and I can tell you that it makes a big difference. Cotton pillow cases can tug at your hair and cause breakage. Plus, they’re absorbent and can take moisturizer away from your hair. Sleeping with a silk pillow case will take some getting used too but it’s worth it in the end.
