Toronto is getting ready for an attack of celebrity sightings, with possibilities ranging from Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington, to new father Justin Timberlake and the all around amazing Leonardo DiCaprio thanks to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
There are no fixed confirmations on which starts will actually show up to support their TIFF films, there are many big names that are obvious candidates. For example, Denzel Washington, along with co-stars Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard and others, are expected for the world premiere The Magnificent Seven - it is the opening night gala at Roy Thomson Hall on Sept. 8.
Other potential star sightings and their films include: Blake Lively (All I See is You); Shia LaBeouf (American Honey); Timothy Spall, Colm Meaney and John Hurt (The Journey); Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea); Woody Harrelson (LBJ and The Edge of Seventeen); Christopher Guest (Mascots); Diane Lane and Alec Baldwin (Paris Can Wait) and Leonardo DiCaprio (The Turning Point).
While half of the fun of TIFF is going celebrity sight-seeing, the other half is going with some friends to see movies that won’t hit the theaters for another few months. Here’s a few movies that you might want to check out!
• The Rolling Stones Ole Ole Ole!: A Trip Across Latin America: Doc director Paul Dugdale follows The Rolling Stones on the legendary band’s 2016 tour that culminated in the rollicking Havana concert in Cuba.
• JT the Tennessee Kids: Jonathan Demme documents the final show on Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience World Tour (maybe Justin Timberlake will watch the movie with you! It’s definitely a possibility).
• Arrival: Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi thriller features Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker.
• Planetarium: Director Rebecca Zlotowski united Natalie Portman and Lily-Rose Depp (Johnny’s daughter) as sisters in a story set in 1930s France.
• Their Finest: Director Lone Scherfig gathers together Gemma Arterton, Bill Nighy, Jack Huston and Sam Claflin in a tale about entertainers trying to raise British morale during WWII bombing raids.
• Snowden: Oliver Stone discovered his screen version of Edward Snowden in Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with Shailene Woodley and Zachary Quinto.
• Deepwater Horizon: Peter Berg invested in Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich and Kate Hudson for his real-life disaster drama.
• La La Land: Damien Chazelle team Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and J.K. Simmons in a musical comedy set in Hollywood.
